Obituary

Robert W. "Bob" Schacht, 79, died Wednesday, 8 Aug 2018. He was born 4 July, 1939 in Pittsburgh PA, and was a graduate of Penn Hills High School prior to enlisting in the US Navy and honorably serving aboard multiple warships, to include Carrier's Hornet, Enterprise, and on the USS Wasp during the 1958 Lebanon Crisis. Having completed his tour in the Navy, he returned home and worked as assistant to the Music Director at Springdale High School, where he met and started his 55+ year love affair with his beloved wife, Lois Ann Carion/Schacht. After getting married in 1963, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served this nation for another 19 years as a talented and accomplished musician with the USAF Band. He skillfully played a multitude of instruments; piano/keyboards, accordion, French horn, percussion (and even the Jug). Of note and pride; Bob served as a Chapter Chairman for the March of Dimes, President and Vice President of the Bolling/Bellevue Little League, and from 1976-1983 Bob was "The" piano player to The White House, for Presidents; Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan. During the span of his USAF career he and his wife were blessed with their three children; Nancy, Bobby and Barbara Schacht, which are his pride, joy and legacy to this world. Bob retired from the Air Force in 1983 as a Senior Master Sergeant and settled in Suitland MD, where he performed as a professional musician at the Colony South Inn, Clinton MD until moving with his wife to Gloucester Point VA, in 2013 to enjoy true retirement. Husband, "Hon", father, "Dad", grandfather, "Pop Pop", "Uncle", musician, fisherman, boater, Steeler Fan, Roadrunner, Sports fan, Nationals Fan, USN/USAF Retired Veteran, expert craftsman, coach, "Santa", creative decorator, lover of dogs, Euchre Master, boat builder, beach-bum, confidant, and a pure hearted dear, dear man whose strength and presence on this earth transcends all words. You are loved beyond measure, constantly missed, but you live on in our hearts and souls until the end of time.

This world will now be, forever less sweet. The life, immense love, strength and goodness of Bob Schacht, cherished husband, father and grandfather could never be captured by mere words on a page. He honored his God, his country and his family, simply through the "life" that he lived, tenderly devoting that lifetime to adoring his wife, and partnering in raising their children. As dearest husband for over 55 years, he demonstrated to the love of his life, Lois, and to the world, precisely how one should love; completely, deeply, and unwavering. World's Greatest Dad, that gave heart, soul, body and most importantly "time" to provide immeasurable devotion, pride, support and wisdom to his three beloved children. Bestest Grandfather; he poured himself out with complete and genuine giving, to inspire and brighten this world for his treasured grandchildren. Modestly being a; loving teacher, guide, partner in fun, and proudly being their dearest Pop Pop.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Lois A. Carion/Schacht, his daughter Nancy L. Schacht (Ron J. Alig), his son Robert J. Schacht (Teresa Pinello/Schacht), his daughter Barbara G. Schacht, grandchildren Nicholas J. Schacht and Nikolais P. Warman, Nephews; Michael and Marty Schacht, Tim and Tom Sedwick, Chris Carion, and Niece Jennifer Carion/Crum, and his constant loving companion "Frosty".
