Robert Lee Ruggles (Hillbilly), 70, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 with his family by his side. Born in Logan, WV, he has been a resident of Hampton since 1971.  He retired as a Pipefitter from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1996 after 24 years.

Robert is survived by his wife of 23 years, Carol J. Ruggles; daughters, Sara Ruggles and Kaylen Shapiro (Bobby); son, Robert W. Ruggles; grandchildren, Wilson William O'Doherty and Blessing Rose O'Doherty; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert enjoyed being surrounded by his family and loved cooking and entertaining. He was dearly loved by his many friends and family.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM Wednesday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, May 31, 2018 in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Buckroe Fire Department.
