Robert Edgar Jones, Sr., 84, passed away on April 25, 2016. Born in Granite City, IL, Bob was the son of Jennings and Agnes Jones and grew up in Columbia, TN. He played football in high school and at Tennessee Tech.
He joined the Navy as a Naval Aviator Cadet and went on to fly commercially as a Captain for American Airlines for 26 years.
Nicknamed "Bumpa" by his grandchildren, Bob was a gentle, fun and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Ann Claycomb Jones; son, Robert Jones, Jr. of Leesburg; daughter, Cynthia Doren of Newport News; daughter, Stephanie Poteet of Hampton; three grandchildren, Chris Jones, Carolyn Jones and Cathryn Jones; and two great-grandchildren, Michael Poteet, Jr. and Jack Poteet.
A service in Arlington national Cemetery will take place at a later date.
