It is with great sadness and grief, the family of Robert (Bobby) Walter Harrell, 71, announces his passing on November 17, 2018, at the Williamsburg Hospice House. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Bobby was preceded in rest by his parents, Asa Walter and Elizabeth Ledlie Harrell. He is survived by his loving wife Linda of 51 years; sons Rob (Tina) and Scott (Robin); 3 grandchildren (Jessica, Jackie and Tristen); 3 great grandchildren; one brother David (Cindy); and extended family.
Bobby was born in Hampton, grew up in Phoebus, graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1965, and graduated from the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School. He ended his 43 1/2 year career as Manager, X74, Production Control for Aircraft Overhaul, Repair, and Refueling. After retirement, he regularly went to the YMCA 4-5 days a week and golfed 2-3 days a week. Bobby was an exceptional teacher and mentor to his beloved sons and grandchildren. He shared this talent for several years coaching Northampton youth baseball. He enjoyed boating, fishing, crabbing, hanging out at the beach, traveling, doing projects, and going to Florida every winter. Bobby was a family man always putting them first but, when called upon, he was the first one to help a friend in need. People were drawn to him because of his charisma, his engaging personality, his sense of humor, and his willingness to share himself and his talents.
The family encourages any donations in Bobby's memory be made to: Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, 1615 L Street NW, Suite 430, Washington, DC 20036.
A memorial service will be held on November 27th at 2:00pm at Liberty Baptist Church, Hampton, VA. Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton, 757-825-8070.
