Robert Joseph Dettwiller, 68, of Hampton, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 after a courageously fought battle with lung cancer. Bob was born April 8, 1946 in McDermott, Ohio. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1964. He served in the United States Air Force as a loadmaster, was stationed at Langley Air Force Base and served a tour in Vietnam. Bob was a Construction Project Superintendent at Branscome, Inc. for 37 years. Bob was a talented story teller and greatly enjoyed making everyone around him laugh. He loved the outdoors, whether it was on the water fishing or watching the birds he fed in his backyard. When he was indoors, he could be found watching an old western movie or cooking. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Cynthia Dettwiller and two children, Eric Dettwiller of Hampton and Amber Dunn of New Port Richey, Florida, and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Emma Dettwiller of Portsmouth, Ohio; his brothers Dan Dettwiller and Donald Dettwiller; and his sister Becky Dettwiller. Bob touched many lives and will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11am at ALBERT G. HORTON, JR. MEMORIAL VETERANS CEMETERY in Suffolk, Virginia. Following the service, friends and family will be welcome at his son's home.
