Robert Raymond Dessoffy, Sr., 78, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014. Born in Cleveland, Bob was born of parents who once occupied the Hungarian throne, the Dessewffy noble family. He served four years in the U. S. Army and then began a long and distinguished career with Exxon Mobile Company, retiring in 1997 as a regional district manager for the DC and Virginia markets. During the same period, he owned a travel agency with his wife in Alexandria, which enabled him to travel the world. In 1999, he joined with his son Bob, Jr. and his wife Tammy Flint Dessoffy in building the Oyster Point Car Wash in Newport News. He moved to Newport News in January of this year to be close to his family. Bob Dessoffy, Sr. was preceded in death by his wife Arlene and son, infant Joseph Dessoffy. He is survived by his former wife and mother of his children Dorothy Stubbs of Richmond. Surviving children and their spouses are Robert R. Dessoffy, Jr. and wife Tammy of Newport News, Keith W. Dessoffy and his wife Janet of Hampton, Kenneth B. Dessoffy and his wife Susan of Gloucester, Raymond J. Dessoffy and his wife Donna of Herndon, VA, John M. Dessoffy and his wife Debbie of Chesterfield, VA, David P. Dessoffy and his wife Paulina of Jacksonville, Karen D. Field of Chester, VA and Kim D. Mitchell and her husband James of Lovettsville, VA; fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family wishes in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Mt. Bob will be inurned in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
