Robert Mangum Barrow passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018.  Born in Norfolk, VA on April 2, 1937, the son of the late Helen Bowles Mangum Barrow and Frank Duke Barrow.  He graduated from Maury High School, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (BA), the College of William and Mary (AM) and the University of Virginia (PhD). He taught history at Maury and Granby High Schools in Norfolk, at the University of Virginia, and for 27 years on the graduate faculty at Georgia Southern University.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard, and was a member of Delta Chi and Phi Alpha Thera (History) fraternities, the Raven Society (UVa) and several professional Organizations.  He retired in 1994 and moved to Virginia in 2001.  He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Hampton, VA and its Wesley Fellowship Class.

He is survived by his Hampton "family": Jean Hudgins Lucy, Mary and Jim McAnally, Charles Lucy and sons, David and Craig.

A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk.  A Memorial service will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton, 2609 Cunningham Dr. in Hampton, 757-825-8070.
