Robert Frank Barkle, 83, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014. A native of Detroit, MI, he had been a Peninsula resident since 1972 when he retired from the US Air Force after 22 years of service. He then went to work as a police officer for the Department of Defense for 8 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Hampton Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 26. Preceded in death by his wife, Loretta L. Barkle; survivors include his children, John R. Barkle, Michael J. Barkle and his wife, Sidney, Robert G. Barkle, and Patricia L. Barkle; three grandchildren, Steven, Sarah, and Kyle Barkle; and two sisters, Mary Begar and Roberta Smith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment with full Air Force honors will be private.
