Robert L. Auerbach, 83, died August 29, 2023. A native of Charleston, SC he had been a longtime Hampton resident. Robert attended Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis. He was a member of the Hampton High Class of 59' and then earned a bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University. For 50 years Robert worked at Thomas Nelson Community College, retiring in 2018. He was a member of the Wythe Exchange Club and the Lion's Club. Robert's greatest joy was his family, and he will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, Pops and Robert Daddy. He loved animals and enjoyed gardening and genealogy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Marjorie Auerbach. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Catherine Auerbach; children, Paul and Allison Shevlin with Candace and Elizabeth, Robert J. and Kari Auerbach with Aiden and Emily, Brian G. And Holly Auerbach with Kaitlynn and Shelly and Geoffrey Kostiner, Catherine A. Auerbach and Carlos Walter with Michael; as well as a large extended family and his dog, Pickles.

The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 6-7:30PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 1:30PM. Interment in Peninsula Memorial Park will follow immediately after.
