Robert P.
Anderson, Sr.
January 20, 1932 – June 21, 2023
Robert P. "Andy" Anderson, Sr. died Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Born in Liverpool, WV to Albert Fulton and Hazel Staats Anderson, he had been a Hampton resident since 1965. An Air Force veteran, he retired with the rank of MSgt in 1976 after 26 years of service. He was a member of Bethany Methodist Church. Andy was very active in the masons. He joined at Hilcrest Lodge in Sumter, SC, and locally was a member of St. Tammany #5 and Claremont #177. He was also a member of the Warwick chapter of the Royal Arch and the Scottish Rite. His other organizations include York Chapter #89 Odd Fellows, Hampton Commandry #17, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Order of the Amaranth, and Colonial Chapter #40 Order of the Eastern Star and he was involved in the Hampton Senior Center. In his younger years he was a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 2, Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel 13, International Order of Job's Daughters, and the Hampton Roads Chapter of DeMolay. He volunteered his time and money to each of these organizations because he lived to serve others.
Andy operated Andy's Ceramics and his passion was giving people ceramics everywhere across the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Harold Anderson, his sister, Lorene Mueller, and his daughter, Susan Zuckernick. Survivors include his wife, Laura Anderson; his daughters, Dianne Moon and her husband, William, and Karen Glass; his son, Robert P. Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Bernadette; a sister, Hazel Crawford; four brothers, Earl, Dale, Ray, and Howard Anderson; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1-2pm Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Bethany Methodist Church. A funeral service with Masonic Rites and Air Force honors will follow at 2pm. Interment will be private.
