Obituary

Robert (Bob) Allsbrook Jr., 84, of Hampton, passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2023.  Robert was born in Williamston, NC, to Robert and Louallie Allsbrook.  At an early age, he moved to Roanoke Rapids, NC where he lived until graduation from Roanoke Rapids High School.  He earned All North East Conference Honors in both his Junior and Senior Years for his participation in football.  Robert attended Chowan Junior College where he played defensive end and lettered in football.  He graduated from Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School.  After graduation, he served in the US Army Reserves and returned to NNS where he served in various supervisory and managerial positions over a period of 40 years with the final 30 years spent at NNS subsidiary Newport News Industrial Corporation.  While attending the Apprentice School, Robert met, Bradford Lee, the love of his life.  They worked together to raise a wonderful family and were married over 60 years.  Even with the responsibilities of work and raising a family he was involved with many outside activities.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hampton, where he served in many capacities; President of Methodist Men, President of Wesley Bible Class, Member of Church Council and a Trustee of the Church.  Robert was also a member of the Wythe Exchange Club and Chairman of the City of Hampton Parking Commission.  Robert was very active in raising money to build the Hampton History Museum where he served on the Board of Directors and was Treasurer of the Hampton History Museum Association.  He loved history and spent many years as a Docent for the museum as well.  Robert's favorite days were spent sitting by the pool with Bradford and his dog, Rico, as his children and grandchildren came over to enjoy the day together.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Louise Johnson.  He is survived by his wife, Bradford Allsbrook; three children, Page Daly (Bruce), Bobby Allsbrook (Sandra), and Michelle Allsbrook; six grandchildren, Ashley Bostic (Tyler), Will Kilgore, Callah Allsbrook, Cary and Colby Allsbrook, Hannah Paulin; two great-grandchildren, Lawrence and Adrian Wilson; and his sister Kay Outland (Billy).

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 7, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church of Hampton, VA.

The family requests any contributions to honor the life of Robert be made to the First United Methodist Church of Hampton, VA.
