Rita Elizabeth Hewitt Stokes, 81, of Conover, N.C, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Yorktown, V.A.

She was born on February 5, 1937 in Catawba County, N.C.

She was the daughter of the late Mary Edith Beard Hewitt Edwards and Ernest Edward Hewitt.

She was also predeceased by her son Terry Gene "Gino" Stokes, Jr., her brothers Billy "Bill" Jackson Hewitt, Darrell Glenn Hewitt, and nephew Philip Hewitt.

She is survived by her daughter Denise Stokes Hall, son-in-law Earle Hall, grandson Connor Hall, granddaughter Kelsea Hall from Hampton, VA., brother Ken Hewitt from Catawba, N.C., nieces and nephews Dawn Hewitt, Sam Hewitt, Tim Hewitt, and Kenneth Jr. Hewitt.

She was a graduate of Balls Creek High School and Clevenger College. She worked at Baker Insurance Agency and Hickory Furniture Company where she met many friends.

A lifelong resident of Catawba, N.C., she recently moved to Virginia to be with her family.

Rita was a kind-hearted person who adored her two grandchildren. She took great pride in Connor's passion of racing in Nascar, Kelsea's love of competing in horse events, and supporting their college endeavors.

Rita loved going to the beach, collecting shells, gardening, dancing, and spending time with two of her best friends Bonnie Davis and Judy Mauldin.

A private memorial service will be held in N.C. and V.A.
