Richard "Dick" V. Pawlewicz, 98, passed away on January 28, 2023 in Newport News, VA. Born in Syracuse NY on October 30, 1924 to Jane Plucienski and Victor Pawlewicz, he attended St. Brigid's grammar school, St Lucy Academy High School and graduated from Niagara University in 1943. He then served in the Army (43-45), and was stationed in the Philippines. He received his Masters in Social Work from Catholic University in 1949.

Dick married Dorothy Rotter in June 1950 and went on to raise two sons. He spent his 39 year professional career serving veterans in various roles at the Veterans' Administration in Albany, Minneapolis, Dayton, Cleveland, East Orange, Miles City and Leavenworth.  Ever the social worker, he was a teacher (Earlham College & St. Mary's College), counselor, theologian (President Dayton Deanery of Catholic Men), philosopher (Chairman HAPPY WANDERERS), and traveler (Coast Guard Auxiliary). He retired in the Tidewater area in 1984 to enjoy the water views, explore the history and watch the ships go by at Fort Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Jane; brothers Rey and Victor; sisters Jacqueline and Virginette; and his wife Dorothy.

He is survived by his brother, Robert; his sons, Richard Pawlewicz and his wife Anna and Stephen T. Pawlewicz and his wife Paula.  Also, by his six grandchildren Karl Pawlewicz (Lindsey), Hannah Viera (Michael), Michaela McCann (Jake), Sophia Pawlewicz, John Pawlewicz (Julie), and Mira Pawlewicz; and 6 great grandchildren, Xavier, Abel, Cora, Delaney, Genevieve and Miles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church in Hampton VA at 9AM on Saturday February 25, 2023.
