Richard Eugene Lowther, 90, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.  He was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania and raised in Bitner, Pennsylvania to parents Albert and Nellie Lowther.   Richard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1953 – 1973 retiring after 20 years.  While in the service, he met and married his wife of 66 years, Shirley. After his military retirement, he went on to work for over 20 years as a sheet metal technician at Newport News Shipbuilding.  He was currently employed at the Hamptons Golf Course where he made many special friends and memories.  A Pittsburgh Pirates baseball fan, he also grew to love the Pittsburgh Steelers and was an avid golfer.  Richard was a devoted father to Wayne and Sandra, but his favorite title was Pap-Pap to his grandsons, Anthony and Trent and great-grandson, Alec.

Preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Joyce Daniels, Albert Lowther, Butch Lowther and Cindy Casey; he leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Shirley Lowther; son, Richard "Wayne" Lowther (Maxine); daughter, Sandra Strickland (Randy); sisters, Beverly Sabatula and Judy Wiesen; brother, Bill Lowther, grandsons, Anthony Lowther and Trent Strickland (Lauren); great-grandson, Alec Strickland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA.
