Richard G Haight died peacefully on October 31, 2025. He was born, April 6, 1927, to George and Anna Haight, a native of Barrington, New York. Dick received his Bachelor's degree from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York. He and his first wife Aileen were childhood friends and high school sweethearts.
After Dick got out of the army and college they married on January 5, 1952. Dick's job as a civil engineer took them to Pease AFB in New Hampshire and in 1962 to Langley AFB in Hampton, Virginia. During their 61 years together, they raised four children and traveled throughout the United States and Europe. He enjoyed skiing and teaching his grandchildren how to ski. After the death of Aileen in 2013, he moved into the Chesapeake Retirement Community where he met his second wife, Julie Compton. They were married on February 24, 2018. They did a little bit of traveling and enjoyed the many activities of the Chesapeake. Dick was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church where he gave generously of his time and talents.
He was preceded in death by his wives Aileen Haight, Julie Compton, and his son Keith Haight ,Sr.. He is survived by his children, Brian Haight, Lisa Haight, and Glenn Haight. Dick had seven grandchildren, Keith Haight and his spouse Diana, Kelly Haight and her spouse Kevin Hall, Andy Diggs, Denise Parker and her spouse Billy, Richard Haight, A'nna Blackmon and her spouse Andrew, and Gabrielle Irby. Dick had nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church Fox Hill, 1 Salt Pond Road, Hampton, Virginia. A second service will be held at the Chesapeake Retirement Community, 955 Harpersville Road, Newport News, Va. at 3 pm, November 15, 2025, in the Chesapeake room. Rev. Dr. Brian Sixbey is officiating both services. Family will receive friends immediately following the services.
