Obituary
HAMPTON - Richard W. Dixon, 71, passed away at home on February 9, 2018. Richard was a native of Ohio, attended Ohio University where he received his B.S. in Psychology, M.S. in Economics, and was near completion of his Ph.D. During his college career, he was drafted into the Army where he proudly served his country, being stationed in Germany during the
Vietnam War
. Following his service, he continued his career as a professor of economics at Thomas Nelson Community College. During his nearly 40 year career at TNCC, he served as the Department Chair for a time and continued on as a professor until his retirement. In his time outside of the classroom, Richard loved jogging, golfing, white water rafting, and spending time with his family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Virginia Dixon. Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Estelle E. Dixon; sons, Christopher and Stephen Dixon; daughter, Kathleen Dixon (Chris); sister, Lynn Bailey; brother, Donald Dixon (Jerri); grandchildren, Abby, Kevin, Matthew, and Nathan; as well as several nieces, nephews, and his special cat Honey. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the incredible staff at Virginia Oncology Associates, especially Dr. Kruger, Kim Heath, Trina, Niani, and Laurel. They would also like to thank Sandy and Audrienne from Personal Touch Hospice for the compassionate care they provided during his illness.
The family will receive friends at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Dr., Hampton 23666 on Saturday February 17, 2018 from 2-4PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TNCC Educational Foundation or Amyloidosis Froundation in his memory.
