Obituary

Richard George Clark, 87, passed away May 26, 2022. Rick was born in New Jersey to parents, Richard and Mildred Clark. He was a graduate of Newark College of Engineering, and he served with the United States National Guard before enlisting in active duty with the 82 nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. Following his time in the military Rick turned to comedy and performed stand up at The Showboat, The Pack Inn, and the Stallion Club in New Jersey. Later he moved to Hampton Roads where he had a long successful career in the broadcasting and entertainment industries. Rick played the characters Sandy the Clown and was the Keeper of the Chamber for Channel 13. He retired after 33 years from Channel 13 as a film editor. During his time at Channel 13, he hosted Alcoholics Anonymous for 30 years.  Rick was an active member of the Monitor Lodge #197 Hampton where he rose to the level of Master Mason. He would dress up as Santa at Christmas and visit the sick children in the local hospitals to help cheer them up. He was especially fond of spoiling and spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Rick was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia Clark who he shared 63 wonderful years with; daughter, Elizabeth Allen; and his sister, Nancy. He is survived by his daughter Melissa Clark; grandchildren, Scott Allen and Heather Meyers (William); and great-grandchildren, Chloe Meyers and Emily Meyers.

The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Thursday, June 2, from 5:30-7PM. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park on Friday, June 3 at 3PM where he will be laid to rest with Virginia.
