Obituary

Richard William Boyd, 70, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018.  Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was a resident of Hamburg, PA but lived in Hampton, VA for a brief period of time where he worked for Huntington Ingalls Industries Newport News Shipbuilding as Senior Foundry Metallurgist.

Rick is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jean A. Boyd; children and their spouses, Bret Boyd, Scot and Zlatka Boyd, and Katy and Ryan Rhoads; and grandchildren, Aiden Rhoads, Mikael Rhoads, Gabriel Rhoads, Veronica Boyd and Natalie Boyd. He was predeceased by a half brother Emerson "Jack" Renard husband to Kathie Renard and two nephews.

Vice-President Technology at Steel Founders' Society of America, Crystal Lake, IL

President at Nova Precision Casting Corp., Auburn, PA

Vice-President and Technical Director/Operations at Pennsylvania Steel Foundry, Hamburg, PA

Melting Supervisor at Dodge Steel Co., Philadelphia, PA

He was an active member of numerous societies:

American Foundry Society, FAM Huguenot Lodge, Rajah Shrine Reading, PA.

He served in the following capacities:

Chairman of the Eastern Division of the Technical & Operating Group of the Steel Founders' Society of America

High Alloy Product Group representative to the Technical & Operating Group of the SFSA

On the committee and as Chairman of the High Alloy Research Committee of the SFSA.

On the Electric Furnace Committee of the Iron and Steel Society of AIME

Two terms as Chairman of the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Foundry Society

Chairman of the High Alloy Product Group of the SFSA

Technical Chairman, Investment Group, East Coast Regional Conference - AFS, 1991, 93, 95

National Director for the American Foundry Society, Des Plaines Il 1994 - 1997

Secretary-Treasurer of the Keystone Chapter of the American Foundrymen's Society, 30+ yrs

He wrote and presented technical papers to:

Steel Founders' Society of America, T&O Group - national and local

Philadelphia Chapter of the American Foundry Society ( Keystone Chapter )

East Coast Regional Conference of the American Foundry Society

Reading Foundrymen's Association

Electric Furnace Conference of the Iron and Steel Society, AIME

Hobbies included chess, astronomy, computers, and a special fondness for singing with church, Shriners and Hamburg Community Concert choirs.

With strong civic-mindedness, he served in various positions:

Chairman of the Hamburg Municipal Sewer & Water Authority, 16 yrs.

Church Council of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg, PA

President of the Hamburg Borough Council

1st Vice-President of North Berks Recreation Corp.

President of the Hamburg Civil Service Board

Radiological Officer, Hamburg EMA and as Hamburg Emergency Management Coordinator EMC with Pennsylvania Governor's appointment

Our Town Foundation, Hamburg, PA, Blue Print Community committee

Secretary of the Hamburg Business Association

Hamburg Planning Commission as Chairman

Interment will be private.
