Bennett
May 14, 1931 – September 30, 2021
Richard Edmund Bennett, 90, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Hinton, West Virginia, and had lived in Hampton since the late 40's. He was a graduate of Hampton High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War.
For many years, Richard worked in the Newport News Shipyard, as well as Horne Brothers, until he opened his own appliance repair business, called REBCO. During his career, he repaired and serviced countless appliances throughout the Peninsula.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Russell and Estella Hester Bennett; his wife Shirley, his sisters, Anna Jean Ditty, Charlotte Johnson, and Bertie Lou Maynor.
In 1953, he married the former Shirley Ann McDermon. Together, they had 3 children. They are Donna Lynn Blake of Hampton, Richard Russell Bennett of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Cheryl Ann Cosentino of Randolph, Kansas.
Besides his children, Richard is also survived his 7 grandchildren: Dawn, Devin, DJ, Christy, William, Dainton, and Drew. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Currently, no service is scheduled.
