SGM Raymond Frederick McAneney (U.S. Army Ret.), 82, passed away at home, Thursday, December 19, 2013. Born in Lowell, Mass the son of the late William and Rosette (Tremblay) McAneney. He has been a resident of Hampton, VA for 10 years.
Ray served his country honorably for 30 years, which included two tours during the Vietnam War. After retiring in 1979, he began working at the V.A. Hospital in Manchester, NH, where he worked extensively with Agent Orange Veterans. He again retired as a Benefit Administrator in 1994 after 15 years.
Ray was preceded in death by his brothers, William, John, Richard and Gerald McAneney; sister, Barbara Fagan; and grandson, Shawn McAneney. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret E. (Kunz) McAneney; daughter, Karen A. Valentine of Hampton, VA; sons, Albert R. McAneney of Tenino, WA and Michael W. McAneney of Conroe, TX; sisters, Patricia Perron, Shirley McAneney, Donna Dennison, Diana McComb and Mary-Gail St. John; grandchildren, Kevin, William, Rachel, Amanda, Gabriella; and seven Great-grandchildren.
The family requests contributions to be made to St. Joseph the Worker Shrine, 37 Lee St., Lowell, MA, 01852 or your favorite charity.
