Phyllis C. Ayers passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 13, 2025.  Born in Louisburg, NC she moved to the Peninsula at a young age. Phyllis devoted her life to youth activities with a career helping students at CNU and recreational activities such as scouting, PTA, and youth ministries.

She was preceded in death by her husband William C. Ayers and a son Claytor Ayers. Phyllis is survived by her two sons, William Jason Ayers and Cpt. Steven Forrest Ayers; along with her parents Ed and Maxine Cone.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 18, 2025 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton, VA from 5:30-7pm. The family asks, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to the American Heart Foundation.
