Peter Allan Milan (born Winslow Allan Oikle), 80, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in Newport News, Virginia.
Peter was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts in 1938. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1960. On October 17, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart Jane Howell. He attended the University of Lowell and was one of the original employees of Digital Equipment Group (badge #14). During the U.S. Bicentennial era, he enjoyed playing the fife and marching in parades with the Chelmsford Colonial Minute Men. He also enjoyed bowling and puzzles. After many years in the Scottsdale, Arizona area, he and Jane retired in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin until 2014 when they moved to Yorktown, Virginia.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Forman Oikle and Eleanor (Backstrom) Oikle Milan Jeddrey, stepfather Andrew Milan, infant son Scott, and son Peter Jr. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane (Howell) Milan and children Lori Stearns (Darren) of Clearwater, KS, Robert (Debbie) of Fort Atkinson, WI, Holly Merrifield(Dave) of Yorktown, VA, and Peter Jr's wife Candy of Fort Atkinson. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Kristen (Clark) Hein, Brandon Clark, Jessica and Derek Milan, Kaitlyn, Scott and Elisabeth Merrifield and Tristan Milan, two great-grandsons, Easton Hein and Peter Merrifield, and two sisters Jean Milan Harmon and Janet Milan Morose.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 AM, June 16, 2018 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hampton, Virginia. Interment will be at the Albert J. Horton Jr., Memorial Veteran's Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Post Office Box 1776 Williamsburg, Virginia 23187-9910.
