Obituary

Peter Howard Maisey, my Dad, was born on April 12, 1933 and passed away on August 11, 2024. He was born to Leslie Howard Maisey and Eleanor Maisey in Leeds Yorkshire England. After completing school he served his mandatory 2 years in the British Army which ended him in British Malaya. He became the manager of a rubber plantation and then returned to Leeds and convinced his mother to take a vacation to Majorca, Spain. Dad loved it, Granny not so much and she returned to Leeds.

Dad moved to Malawi in Southern Africa where he joined the British Colonial Police. He met my Mom, Mary Amanda Gundry and the story tells that as soon as he laid his eyes on her he knew he was going to marry her. Mom, Molly, as she was known to many, and Dad moved to the U.S. where I was born in Washington, DC in 1965. Mom, died of cancer when I was 5 years old so Dad moved us to Rhodesia in late 1970. He worked full time for the Farmers Co-Op and joined the Rhodesian Police Reserve. Dad always said "Rhodesia was a beautiful and enchanting country" and he was correct. Dad sent me back to the US to be out of imminent harms way in 1978. Dad returned to the states in 1980.

Dad was a Friend of Bills whose community and guidance saved his life and he celebrated his 40th year of sobriety this past March.

He retired from the City of Newport News as a Codes Compliance Inspector. In his spare time and moreover after his retirement, Dad loved the game of golf and became a quite good player.

Dad moved into the community of Berkley South in Newport News where he met his neighbor, Miss Mary Cooke. They quickly became best friends and loved each other dearly. Miss Mary is and always will be Dad's true love.

Dad leaves to cherish his memory, me, Hilary Fitzgerald and husband Danny; Miss Mary; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, as well as several nephews, nieces and dear friends.

My extreme gratitude to Riverside Hospice and Home Helpers for their caring and love for Dad in his final days.
