Peter Lowell Atkins passed away on January 26, 2015. His loving wife, Suzette, was by his side. Peter was born on Mar 30, 1959 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his mother, Natalie Riecks. He married the love of his life, Suzette Millican in 1983. Peter is survived by his two brothers, Ray Atkins (wife Marsha and their children), Mark Atkins (wife Cheri and their children) and one sister, Lisa Moore (husband Frank and their children). From his wife's family (whom he loved as his own family), he is survived by Aunt Jean Chambers (husband Tom Black), cousin Steve Chambers, Aunt Johnnie and Uncle Marvin and their children and grandchildren, Uncle Claude and Aunt Anne and their daughter. Although Peter did not have children, he provided his love and care for all mankind. He and Emma, his therapy Tibetan Terrier, visited numerous retirement homes, Veterans hospitals and United Service Organizations (USO) providing compassion to many. Peter served his country proud retiring after 20 years of honorable service with the United States Air Force. He then served as an Air Force civil servant for 10 years as a Contract Specialist; during this time he obtained his Acquisition Professional Development Program Level III Certification, Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) certification, and Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM) certification. He loved learning and was working on his second Master's Degree -- only two classes away. Peter was a "Gentle Giant" that reached out to and touched all he came in contact with; he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held Jan 31, 2015 at 11 am in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
