Peggy Ann Mertz, 61, died Monday, December 21, 2015 of complications from cancer. Raised in Laurel, MD, Peggy had been a 14-year resident of Hampton. She was a dedicated volunteer for the Military Affairs Committee, USO, Langley AFB, Operation Home Front, and Phoebus PTSA.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Lt Col Don Mertz, USAF (Ret).; sons, Christopher Armentrout of Texas and Matthew Mertz of Hampton; and a granddaughter Katie Armentrout of Texas.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 30 at the Chapel of the Centurion, Fort Monroe. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 29 December, from 4 – 8 p.m. at the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society, the Peninsula SPCA, or the Chapel of the Centurion.
