Pauline Mary Carli Blevins, age 100, passed through the Gates of Heaven on November 25, 2018 at the Northampton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center. Pauline was born on October 3, 1918 in Hampton VA, the first daughter of the late Matthew Carli and Eugenia Ferretti Carli. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Blevins; a brother, Matthew Carli Jr; and sister, Beatrice Carli Kasper; and two nephews.
Pauline, born deaf, attended the Virginia School of the Deaf and Blind, Staunton, VA for 15 years, making life-time friends. She was the oldest member of the school's alumni. She was also the longest standing member of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Virginia Association of the Deaf (1947–2018). Pauline was a member of the West Hampton Baptist Church Deaf Ministry, lead for many years by Reverend Brad Hill.
Pauline is survived by three grandchildren, Michael Jr, Christopher, and Brian Blevins; cousin Doris Alves; two nieces Teresa Bragg (David) and Jean Hatch (Bruce); one nephew: Mark Carli (Chris); and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the staff of Northampton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center with special thanks to the Bethel Unit for all their thoughtful and gentle caring. Additionally, Pauline was blessed with the love and kindness from both her long-time friend, Dorothy West; and her niece, Teresa Bragg, who guided Pauline's well-being to the end.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave. Hampton, by Reverend David Bragg with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
