Paul Bernard Weiss, 82, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015. Born on Fort Monroe, he joined the US Navy at the age of 17, transferring to the US Air Force after 3 ½ years, retiring from the Air Force in 1972 after 20 years. He then went to work for the Civil Service at Fort Monroe retiring again in 1982. He served as Union President for a time. Paul enjoyed sailing, riding motorcycles, going on cruises, and visited 28 nursing homes each month where he sang karaoke. He loved coaching girls' softball and had coached at Hampton University, Norfolk State University, and most recently, Christopher Newport University. Survivors include his wife, Sarah, his children, Barbara "Weetie", Paul, Jr., Charlotte, Dawn, Mary, and Billy; his sister, Jeanette Mills; his half-brother, Lee Myers; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty one great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1510 Todds Lane, Hampton by Bishop Tino Hamblin and Bishop Carl Powell. Interment with full Air Force Honors will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
