IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul E.
Moberg
November 22, 1933 – July 6, 2022
Paul Edward Moberg passed away peacefully in his home in Hampton, Virginia on July 6, 2022. He was born in Hampton, Virginia on November 22, 1933 to Eldon Samuel and Pauline Alberti Moberg.
Paul grew up on the banks of the Hampton River on Hampton Institute's campus. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1951 and worked for Dixie Diggs Auto Company after graduation. Paul married Betty Page Hearn (also of Hampton) in 1955. Paul was drafted into the Army in 1956 and served 6 years. After completing his military service, Paul returned to Hampton and began working at Newport News Shipbuilding in their materials support department. He progressed into supervision and stayed with Newport News Shipbuilding for 32 years. Paul and Betty had one daughter, Carol Virginia Peterson Woodall.
Paul devoted his life to working with the Phoebus (formerly Chesapeake) Lions Club where he had recently received their Distinguished Service Award for 69 years of participation. Paul was very active at First Presbyterian Church of Hampton, serving as Deacon and Elder over the years, though his favorite position was serving as a greeter to one and all.
Paul married Alice Kaye Burchett in December 1985, and they continued to live in Hampton. Paul retired from the shipyard in 1995. They moved to the Chamberlin Retirement Community in 2015, where they enjoyed many activities. Paul loved golf, where he continued to play weekly up until 2021. He loved anything on the water – motorboating on his own boats, sailing with friends, and especially watching the boats from the Chamberlin's waterfront. He will always be remembered as a friendly and kind person, with a welcoming smile and handshake for all.
Paul was predeceased by his mother and father; brothers Eldon Samuel (Sam) Moberg, Jr., Robert Earle (Bob) Moberg; Albert James (Al) Moberg; and his sister Marguerite (Sid) Moberg Turner. He is survived by his wife, Alice Kaye Moberg; daughter, Carol Moberg Woodall (Blair); his grandchildren, Michael Robert Peterson (Sarah), David Kyle Peterson, Kelsey Peterson Jones (James), and Catherine Peterson Sellers (Ian); step-grandson, Vincent Gavin Woodall; and his great-grandchildren, Penelope Eve Peterson, Robert Murray Peterson, Nora Jane Jones, and James Rusty Jones.
A memorial service will be held 2:00pm on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church of Hampton in Hampton, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, Paul's family encourages that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church General Fund.
