Born in Waynesville, NC on September 29, 1938, Patsy Gilliland was taken from this earth on June 10, 2025. Service to be held Monday, June 16th, 2025 at 2 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Hampton.

She is survived by her beloved grandson, Palmer Gilliland, and siblings Geneva Palmer Moody, Hazel Palmer Henson, Betty Palmer Gilliland, George Palmer, Thomas Palmer, and treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Pat is preceded in death by her devoted parents, Elizabeth Adeline Underwood Palmer and James Elmer Palmer, her beloved husband, Michael (Mickey) Adkins Gilliland, sister-in-law, Vivian Gilliland Queen, and siblings Pauline Palmer Wilson, Mark Palmer, and Doris Jean Palmer Dotson.

Pat was a graduate of Waynesville Township High School. She was the Finance Director at Thomas Nelson Community College (now Virginia Peninsula Community College). She and her husband, Mickey, also established and managed G & R Metals in Hampton, VA, which they sold upon Mickey's death. As retirement age approached, Pat provided bookkeeping services to several local businesses.

A trailblazer in business, Pat was a mentor to many women throughout the years, freely sharing her work experiences and no-nonsense approach to pushing forward and succeeding in high-level management positions. She carried herself with pride and elegance, which she balanced out with a clever wit, insight, and down-to-earth sensibility. For those who knew her, there was no greater honor or feeling than to be loved and cherished by Pat.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in her honor to your local food bank or Friends of the Smokies (Cataloochee Valley).
