Patricia Anne Brown was born in Ancon Canal Zone, Republic of Panama on July 11, 1942 to Nathaniel and Charlotte Weeks. She migrated to the United States in March of 1962. Her professional career as a nurse began 40 years ago. Her nursing education began in Oklahoma where she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Bacone College. She then earned her BSN degree from Langston University and continued her studies at Hampton University obtaining a Master of Science with a specialty as Gerontological Nurse Practitioner in which she became certified. In addition to her nursing education, she completed four years of continuing education in the Education for Ministry Lay Program. Patricia was employed for 34 years at the Veterans Affairs Health Care System beginning as a Registered Nurse in ICU, and for the 20 years as a Primary Care Provider in the Community Living Center until her retirement in June of this year. She served as adjunct faculty at Hampton University School of Nursing and Regis College for undergraduate nursing students. She also served as a preceptor for graduate nursing students from several other universities and was a mentor to nursing students. Patricia was a faithful member of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. where she held various positions. She was also an avid lover of outreach, lending a helping hand to those in need throughout the community through numerous venues. She had unshakeable faith and was a dedicated member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church for over 20 years. In addition to all of her accolades, Patricia was a devoted family woman; loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. Patricia Anne Brown transitioned into eternal rest on August 23, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel Weeks and Randolph and Charlotte Alston, her son David Brown, and two brothers David Bowen and Carlos Bowen. She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Darren Brown, Kuwait, Irvin Tyrone Brown and Carlos Griffin, Hampton; one daughter, Angela Griffin, Hampton; two daughters-in-law, Gloria Brown, Durant, OK and Winifred Woods-Brown, Hampton; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, James Weeks , Brooklyn, NY, Donald Williams, Philadelphia, PA, Randy Alston, Jacksonville, FL, and Waties Alston, Newport News; one sister, Anna Alston-Terreforte, Philadelphia, PA; a special sister, Gloria White, Virginia Beach; two sisters-in-law. Evette Weeks, Brooklyn, NY and Judy Williams, Philadelphia, PA; two aunts, Hilda "Ma B" Butcher, Virginia Beach and Mary Samuels, Stone Mountain, GA; along with a caravan of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Patricia will truly be missed by her family and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 PM, Saturday, August 30, 2014 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church by Rev. Peg Buelow. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM-1PM Saturday at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions.
