CHESAPEAKE - Pat "Coach" Painter, 70, passed peacefully at home with his family by his side Saturday, May 8, 2021.  Born on Ramey Air Force Base, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.  Pat retired after working 35 years at Newport News Shipbuilding.  He is probably best remembered for his 20+ years as a coach at Phoebus Little League and Fox Hill Football.  Coach Painter helped mold the lives of countless children in Hampton Roads.  He instilled confidence, mental and physical toughness, and taught them the importance of teamwork, thus providing them the tools to succeed in life.  Pat was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, brother Joe Doyon, and sister Carol Smith.  Pat and Nancy spent their days in retirement collecting and distributing meals, hygiene supplies, and providing ministry to the area's homeless population. He is survived by his sons and their wives, Johnny and Raquel Painter, Brian and Jenn Painter, and Patrick and Melissa Painter; stepson Brian Morgensen and wife Skip; stepdaughter Tiffany Hansen and husband Graden; brothers Earl Painter, Ron Painter, Butch Painter and his sister Charlotte Cockey, his 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6-7PM on Friday, May 14 ^th at R Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA. A Celebration of Life will begin at 7PM.
