Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother Norma Jane Reed. Mom was born June 4, 1935 to Hunter and Christine Morgan in Ronceverte, WV. She grew up in those beautiful mountains surrounded by a large loving family. She met the love of her life, Harold, whom she married in 1952. They moved to several locations in WV and NY, finally settling in Hampton in 1963.

Mom was a master seamstress, making many clothes, yoyo quilts and dolls for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she loved working in her yard tending to her flowers. She was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church, only missing services these past few years due to her illness. She worked retail for Kmart for many years and retired from the City of Hampton Schools Transportation Dept. as a bus aide in 2016.

She is survived by her son Sam (Debbie); daughters, Pam (Bill) and Connie (Rick); grandchildren, Stacy and Ryan Reed, Morgan, Russell, and Samuel Aiken, and Brandon, Hunter, and Dylan Jenkins; fifteen great-grandchildren; two bonus great-grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine Shafer and Sharon Hypes; brother, Elwood Morgan; and many nieces and nephews. Words cannot describe how greatly she will be missed.

The family will receive friends from 4-6pm Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Thursday at Grace Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
