Nina Mae Nicholson, 89, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019.  Born in Covington, VA, she has been a resident of Newport News since 1967.  Nina was a devoted and dedicated military wife who supported her husband, George A. Burnette, Jr (deceased 1976) through various military assignments, including two tours in Vietnam.  Nina worked for Adams Shoes in Newport News and Williamsburg for many years, and finished her career with Civil Service.

Nina is survived by her sons, Walter Burnette and Russell Burnette; daughters-in-law, Robyn Ross Burnette and May Burnette; sister Geneva Hayslett; grandchildren, Russell Dennis Burnette, Cameron Burnette and wife Ashley Nicole, Christy Burnette and fiancé Dustin Harrell and Catie Burnette; and great-grandchildren, Shelby Marie Burnette, Reed Madlock and Cora May Burnette.
