Obituary

Nathan J. Perry, known fondly as Junior, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the age of 89. Born in Williamston, North Carolina, he moved to Hampton in 1953, where he began a career as an electrician at Newport News Shipbuilding. He retired in 1999 as a master shipbuilder and spent his remaining years with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marie; his parents, Nathan Thomas and Annie Bell Perry; brothers, Robert Perry and Gerald Perry; and sisters, Estelle Rios, Velma Hardison, Marie Hardison, Gladys Wilson, and Annie Lee Gurganus.

He is survived and will be missed by his son, Jim (Cindi); grandchildren, James and Kristin; sisters, Viola Hollis, Gaynell Howell, Eula Gardner (Freddie), Faye Barber (Jerry); brother, N.S. Perry (Thelma); and his loving extended family.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:00 PM on Friday, January 6, 2023 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Williamston, North Carolina.
