Monika M. Butler, 80, passed on Sunday, June 2, 2019. Born in Hof, Germany, she was married to Lewis Butler who preceded her in death in September of 1988. She has been a resident of Hampton Roads since 1990.
Monika is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Petra & Timothy Tucker; brothers, Günter Reuss and Ludwig Reuss; grandchildren, Andre Cotman and Julian Brown and a great-grandchild on the way.
The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 am Sat, June 15, 2019 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. Immediately following at 11:00 am, Monika's life will be remembered and celebrated by her brother-in-law, Bobby Butler.
Monika was born to Fritz and Katherina Reuss in 1939 and was 6 years old when World War 2 ended. She married Lewis Butler and was military wife. They traveled back and forth between the United States and Germany until they retired and built a house together in Rixeyville, Virginia.
Monika was very talented and loved knitting and making jewelry. She knitted blankets and created her own Angel pins, necklaces and bracelets. She enjoyed movies, music and liked to dance. One of her favorite activities where her daily walks at Patrick Henry Mall where she was known as the "Mall Mom". She received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior was a member of Bethel Church of Hampton.
Her extended friends and family include Bobby & Mary Butler, Wade & June Frye, Eugene & Reva Cooke, a list of nieces and nephews, Blanche Tucker and the rest of the Tucker Family. Her best friend was Trudi Taylor.
A special thanks to Riverside Adult Day Care and the Gardens of Warwick Forest especially Khalid and Odessa. Many thanks to Sharon Cotman for the many visits and time spent. We would also like to thank the staff and security at Patrick Henry Mall for there care and kindness.
Monika Butler lived life to the fullest and loved with her entire heart.
