Mitchell H. Shannon, 56, died Friday, February 13, 2015. A native and lifelong Newport News resident, he was a member of First Friends Church. He loved music and singing, his favorite group being Lynard Skynard and he never missed a chance to see them in concert when they came to town. He was an avid reader and a huge Redskins fan. Mitchell was a fun person to be around. Preceded in death by his father, Robert Shannon; survivors include his mother, Geneva Moore Shannon; his twin brother, Michael W. Shannon; his sister, Phyllis English Caplovitz; his aunts and uncles, Etta Amis, Edith Brissey, Elmer Moore, Paulette Dippary Lewis, Randall Dippary, and James Dippary; and many cousins. A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at First Friends Church, 1062 Big Bethel Road, Hampton by Pastor Joe Stroud.
