Mildred Faye Sands, 84, died Monday, November 11, 2024. Born in Lynchburg, VA, she had been a Peninsula resident for most of her life and was in the Newport News High School Class of 1957. She was a member of the Hampton Moose Lodge #1514 and the WOTM 349 for over 50 years, serving in many capacities, but her special achievement was being elected as Virginia State Deputy. Faye loved to travel and always navigated with a paper map, even after GPS became available.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Essex and Elsie Thomas, her husband, Eugene "Bucky" Sands, her brother, Steve Thomas, and her sister, Shirley Hancock. Faye was a very loving mother, grandmother, and sister to her three daughters, Connie Murray (Jay), Cathy Gunter (Virgil) and Christine Clark (Randy); sister, Joyce Turner; brother, Ryland Thomas; grandchildren, Becky (Joe), Toney, Jonathan (Laura), Cynthia (Wayne), Steven (Courtney), Melissa, Kayla (Craig), Whitney (Christian), Whitney, Carrie (Justin), and Dillon; great-grandchildren, Austin (Dominique), Kayleigh, Trey (Ryen), Logan, Ashlyn, Riley, Tyler, Sofia, Alexander, Zachary, Gabe, Hunter, Camden, Zaylee, and Talia; and great-great-grandchildren, Adaline and Silver.

A celebration of her life with WOTM rites will take place at The Hampton Moose Lodge #1514, 207 E. Mercury Blvd. on Saturday, November 23, 2024. A reception will follow.
