IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mildred Urban
Onks
April 29, 1930 – September 30, 2016
Mildred Urban Onks went home to be with the Lord on September 30, 2016 at the age of 86. Mildred was born on April 29, 1930 in Ellard, Virginia. She had been a long-time resident of Phoebus and resided in Suffolk for the past 17 years.
Mildred (also known as Minnie by her family) was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always put her family first and enjoyed the simple things in life – being a homemaker, sharing photographs, gardening, watching wildlife, and listening to country/gospel/polka music; but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. One of her greatest joys was being instrumental in helping to raise her grandson, Gabriel.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Fitzgerald; step-father, Clemmer Fitzgerald; son, Frank Windsor; sister, Grace Bell; and her faithful canine companion, Sandy.
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her husband of 64 years, Billy Joe Onks; three sons, Elmer "Junior" Windsor, Jr. (Wendy), George "Joey" Onks, Sr. (Karen), Darrell "Lenny" Onks (Joyce); two daughters, Barbara Rosa (Pete) and Bonnie Goodrich (Lou); 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. She will forever be in the hearts of the lives she touched.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, October 3 rd at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 Armistead Avenue, Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 4 th at the Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Joe Hunt. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
The family wishes to acknowledge with sincere appreciation the loving care, compassion and kindness that was shown to Mrs. Onks by the staff at Coliseum Convalescent and Rehabilitation Services; and also to extended family members Esther Hingle and Nancy Masters for their unconditional love and support during this difficult time.
