Mildred Virginia Hogg Lee Abernathy, 94, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014. A Lifelong resident of the Peninsula, she worked for the Old Point Trust Department, retiring in 1982 after 20 years. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Mrs. Abernathy was preceded in death by her first husband, James Thomas Lee and second husband Fred Abernathy and daughter, Carol Denton. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Lee Heysek; son, James Thomas Lee, Jr.; grandchildren, Robert C. Denton, Sr., Michael Michniak, Pam Vanscoy, Debbie Smith, Melody Okonski and Crystal Estes; eighteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 PM Wednesday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel by Pastor Jennifer A. Mercer. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial.
