Mildred Grace Kirby, 87, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014. A native of Zanesville, OH, she was a resident of Manteo, NC and Newport News. She won many awards for her cross stitching. She worked for many years for Newport News Public Schools as a cafeteria manager and had also worked for The Lost Colony on Roanoke Island. Survivors include her husband, David L. Kirby; three sons, David B. Kirby, Jeffrey L. Kirby and his wife, Shirley Jones, and Jim Kirby and his wife, Carolyn Kirby; her daughter, Elisa Kirby; a sister, Mary Smith; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 25, 2014 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel.
