On June 27, 2022, Mildred Jean Johnston left this world for her heavenly home.  She was a great daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.  Mildred was born in Corbin, KY to HB and Beulah G. Carroll.  She married Samuel R Johnston on June 20, 1953 and assumed a life as a military wife.  They were based in California, West Virginia, Maine, Florida and Virginia.  Mildred and Sam retired and made their home in Hampton, VA.  Everything Mildred accomplished was driven by her love for her family.  She was a long time member of Langley Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, WMU leader and VBS teacher every summer and later became a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Samuel, her two sons Michael and Wayne Johnston.  She is survived by her children, Willene Mira and Curtis Johnston (Debbie); grandchildren Lori Rodriguez-Howe (Charlie), Lisa Mira Florio (Carl), Christopher Johnston, Melanie Olmstead (Brian), Joe Mira (Daimy), Mathew Johnston (Schyler), Samantha Bower (Jerry), and Alley Johnston; and great-grandchildren Steven Rodriguez (Kristy), Brian Olmstead, Celeste Olmstead, Anthony Florio, Hannah Mira, Sarah Mira and Ayla Bower.

The family will receive friends in the chapel at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton, VA on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 10:30-11:00am with a funeral service officiated by her grandson, Pastor Joseph A Mira, Jr., at 11:00am.  Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
