Michael Stephen Chittum, 61, died Friday, October 18, 2013. Born in Lexington, VA, he was raised in Buena Vista, VA. He had been a Hampton resident for the last 35 years where he worked at the Newport News Shipyard. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Casper and Helen Chittum.

Survivors include his wife, Claudia Chittum; his daughter, Michele Smith and her husband, Kevin; his son, Brad Chittum; four grandchildren, Schylar and Shelby Smith, Jason Buck and Cassie Chittum; two sisters, Dianna Hunt and Donna Mull; a brother, Keith Chittum and his wife, Shelly; and a large extended family.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 PM on Friday, October 25, 2013 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by Chaplain David Lekarczyk.

The family would like to thank Dr. Flemming and staff for the loving care shown to Michael and his family.
