Mervin S. Shearer, 96, died Thursday, May 15, 2014. Mr. Shearer was born in Mechanicsburg, PA on August 28, 1917 to Samuel and Beulah Kutz Shearer. On June 22, 1941, he married Dorothy J. Roush Shearer at Barnitz Church, Cumberland, PA and moved to Hampton in 1941. Here they became members of First United Methodist Church Fox Hill where he had served as supervisor the Sunday School. He had served in the US Army following WWII as part of the occupation forces in Japan. Returning to Hampton, Mervin retired in 1972 from Civil Service at Langley Air Force Base as a sheet metal supervisor. Mr. Shearer is survived by his daughters, Joann Smith and Sandra Shearer; son, Richard Shearer all of Hampton; nieces, Diane Gourley, Mary Moyer, Lois Groff, Norma Weber, Deborah Baldwin all of PA, nephews, George Roush, Robert Bear, C. Glenn Bear and Ray Bear. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy J. Roush Shearer and his parents; sisters, Pauline Miller, Daisy Maney and Betty Sweetland; and a brother, Lt. Charles Shearer. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at First United Methodist Church Fox Hill with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends, Monday from 4-6 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial donations be sent to First United Methodist Church Fox Hill, 1 Salt Pond Rd.
