Melissa P. Walters, 47, gained her wings Friday, July 4, 2025. Born in Newport News, she was a lifelong Peninsula resident. A Registered Nurse, she had worked at many local hospitals and nursing homes. Melissa loved a good trip, especially if it was to the beach. She was always the avid photographer, capturing many family memories. In her younger years, she enjoyed going to concerts, and had been a Bon Jovi fan since childhood and was also a fan of country music and old hip hop music.

Many people preceded her in death, including her son, Shawn Michael Pugh; her parents, DeEtte and Michael Webb; her grandparents, Jillian and Lucy Epps; and her niece, Piper Ann Webb.

Survivors include her children, David Michael Pugh, McKenzie Alexis Burchfield, and  Olivia Lennox Webb; her sister, Mary Leanne Webb; her nieces, Haylie Ellen Heid, Ella Rose, Serenity Rae Powell, and Bailee Quinn Powell; her uncle, Dennis Epps; her aunt, Vicky Church; and her best friend since childhood, Rebecca Leber Griffin.

A memorial service will be conducted at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel. Everyone is asked to wear purple as it was Melissa's favorite color.
