Melissa Kay Proffitt, 69, passed away, Wednesday, July 20, 2022.  Born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 15, 1953, she was the daughter of Wayne Birkhead and Nancy Jo Barron.  Kay was a long-time resident of Hampton and retired from Ft. Monroe as a Management Analysist. Kay loved her family with all her heart, and she will be truly missed.

Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kenneth Birkhead, Kay is survived by her son, Roger L. Proffitt, Sr and wife Jennifer; daughter, Kelli R. Stutt and husband, Gerald; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Proffitt, Roger Lee Proffitt, Jr., Parker Wilson Stutt, and Aubree Grace Stutt; sister, Karin Morgan; nephew, Eli Morgan and niece, Candy Birkhead; and dear friend, John Brock.
