Maxine Kerley Overton, 86, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014. Born in Taylorsville, NC, she has been a resident of Hampton since 1945. She was a former member of Restoration Church Phoebus Baptist, where she kept the nursery on Sundays for 17 years. She loved being with the Children. Maxine was preceded in death by her former husband Roy F. Overton, Jr; and six brothers and one sister. Surviving are her daughter, Sharon O. Crow and her husband Richard of Hampton; granddaughter, Michelle Reavis and her husband Chris; great-grandchildren, Hailie Rae Kidd and Sophia Louise Reavis; sister, Hazel Spera of Taylorsville; brother, Dewey Kerley of Virginia Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 Tuesday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Funeral Home chapel by Rev. Frank Earwood. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
