Maurice Leroy Davis, 88, died Monday, March 14, 2022 after a lingering illness.  Born in Plymouth, NC, he moved to Hampton with his family during World War II. He graduated as Treasurer of the class of 1951 from Hampton High School and went on to graduate from the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. Apprentice School, and then earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Christopher Newport College (now University) in 1988.  In 1993, Maurice retired after 42 years from the Newport News Shipyard as a Contract Administrator.

Always active in church work, he was a member and former Vice-Chairman of the Board of Hilton Christian Church (DOC).  He was active in the Newport News Shipyard Credit Union where he served on the Board of Directors for many years.  Many will remember his carpentry work for them after he retired.

Maurice is survived by three sisters, Mildred Bruce and her husband, of Richmond, Betty Jefcoat and her husband, Atly of Kingston Springs, TN and Anne Holland and her husband, Jim of Williamsburg; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Nancy Prillaman of Newport News and Nancy Robertson of Chesapeake.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 PM Thursday in R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., Hampton. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday in Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton with Pastor David Cox and Pastor Natalie Chamberlain officiating.
