Mary Caroline Welch Boerner, a native and lifetime resident of Hampton, VA died Thursday, February 6, 2025. Born Nov. 27, 1931 in Dixie Hospital, Hampton, VA to Aurelia Reinhardt and Charles Hanlon Welch, Mary Caroline graduated from St. Mary's Star of the Sea School in 1947 and St. Vincent High School in 1949. She attended Mt. St. Agnes college in Baltimore, MD, Radford College and William and Mary College. She was a Founding and Lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She served her Church in many capacities but her most joyous one was a Eucharistic Minister, particularly serving the patients of Riverside Convalescent Home. Mary Caroline took an active roll in her children's School, Scouting and Sport activities. She was a member of the VGWC and PEO Chapter A. She enjoyed playing games of all kinds, especially Bridge.
Mary Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Charles J and John C Welch and her Beloved Husband of 63 years, John "Jack" E. Boerner. She is survived by her children, Michele B. Hilde, of Hampton, Michael Welch Boerner (Johnna) of Waynesville, MO, Cheryl Anne B. Brewer (David) of Canandaigua, NY, Sean Hanlon Boerner (Melinda) of Chester, VA and her Best Friend Carol Moss. Her Grandchildren: Valerie Hilde, Paul "Trey" Hilde, III (Sara), Anne Marie B. Capps, Michael John Boerner (Michelle), Theresa Lee Boerner, Joshua M. Brewer (Linda), Lauren Aurelia B. Terhaar (Tim), Mark B. Boerner, Shannon J. Boerner and 13 Great Grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Friday, February 14, 2025 at St. Rose of Lima and the Korean Martyrs Catholic Church, 2114 Bay Avenue, (Old Wythe Section of Hampton). Msgr. Francis Muench will Officiate, assisted by Rev. Simon Ahn and Msgr. Walter Barrett. The family will receive friends at a reception in the church following the mass. Burial will take place at Parklawn Memorial Park.
