Mary Jane Sweeney, 84, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 in Panama City, Florida.  Born on August 19, 1937 in Waynesboro, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late, Artemis Fisher and Elsie Kay Bateman.

Mary Jane was a waitress and bartender for the VFW for many years, never drinking more than a cup of beer with a dash of salt in it herself.  She loved BINGO, scratch off lottery tickets, thrift stores and playing cards. Mary Jane enjoyed watching her favorite show, Price is Right with Bob Barker and more recently, Wheel of Fortune.  She liked to dance and loved her gentlemen, especially those in uniform.  During the holidays, she loved to sit at the end of the table nibbling on fruits and veggies, while visiting with family and friends.  Not afraid of anything, the hard life she lived, made her very strong and tough.  She had a deep love for her family, including her brother, sister, and their families.  Mary Jane joined First United Methodist Church in Panama City at the age of 82, and passed away knowing in her heart that Jesus Christ was her Lord and Savior and that God loved her.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 AM on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Oakland Cemetery, Hampton, Virginia by Pastor Joe Hunt.
