Mary Virginia (Peake) Strup died on April 27, 2025 following a stroke, just ten days shy of her 98th birthday. Mary was the daughter of Virginia Crone Peake and John J. Peake, Jr., the wife of Joseph S. Strup, and the sister of John J. Peake, III, and William C. Peake, all of whom predeceased her. She lived most of her life in Hampton, VA, and was incredibly proud of her Virginia heritage. She was a member of the D.A.R., P.E.O. Chapter A, Hampton Women's League, and St. John's Church.

Mary is survived by two sons, Thomas (Linda) of Smith Mountain Lake and Douglas (Molly) of Williamsburg, five grandchildren, Jeff (Lindsay), Peter (Rachel), Sarah (Billy), Daniel (Bridgette), and Lauren, as well as ten great-grandchildren. She and Joe were married for 73 years prior to his death in 2022.

Mary enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and being with friends and family. In her younger days, she played tennis, researched her genealogy, and volunteered at church. After moving to The Chesapeake in 2003, Mary was involved in many activities including Bridge, Book Club, and Bible Study. She was practical, loyal, and always spoke her mind. She will be remembered for being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Chesapeake Retirement Community in Newport News on Monday, May 12, at 1PM. Private interment will follow.

The family thanks the caregivers at The Chesapeake for many years of wonderful care. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church in Hampton, VA.
